The Toledo International Centre for Peace (CITpax) is an independent, non-profit Spanish foundation.
The mission of CITpax is to help prevent and resolve international and national conflicts and to consolidate peace and democratic stability within a framework of respect and promotion of human rights and democratic values, bringing together official and unofficial parties.
CITpax activities are based on its vision as a centre for reflection and action, capable of creating added value to the following areas:
Having detected the need to cover an existing gap in the field of non-profit peace organisations, CITpax was registered on 18 June 2004 with the idea of promoting peace by encouraging dialogue and understanding between peoples. CITpax emanates from the recognition of the symbolic value embodied in Toledo, as an example of universal tolerance and fruitful coexistence between three different cultures and religions.
Since its beginning, CITpax has developed as a Spanish organisation with a focus on mediation, particularly in the Middle East, the Maghreb and Latin America. Through its actions, the organisation increasingly aims to use various diplomatic tools as a means to prevent and alter conflicts. During its process of consolidation, collaboration with influential individuals and institutions, on both a national and international level, has been significant. Thus far, CITpax has undertaken a large number of activities with measurable results that have had an impact on the different regions in which the organisation operates. This has enabled CITpax to gain experience and valuable knowledge in order to deal with situations of conflict in a new way. CITpax is now a well-established and respected institution in its field of activity.
