Border in Conflict and Neighboring Relations

Latin America is experiencing and increasing number of border conflicts. With varying levels of intensity, there are more than twenty border conflicts, half of which already under examination of the Tribunal in The Hague. These are conflicts that include differences between neighbouring countries and problems of border and immigration control. These are 23 countries that one way or another are spending an important part of their foreign policy efforts in international tribunals searching for alternatives solutions to problems with their neighbours.

Conscious of the importance of this issue for the regional stability of Latin America, CITpax will develop a space for reflection and dialogue between parties involved in border conflicts to bring about a détente of relations and thus generate trust, in order to at least attenuate the consequences, if not to contribute to the solution of their differences.

The objective is to establish a forward-looking map that highlights some of the tendencies evolving in regional border conflicts, and to present periodical reports about the developments of the border situation on the continent.
