The Regional Governance Observatory has been designed as an integral instrument to periodically follow-up and evaluate the conditions of governance in the countries of the Andean region. The aim is to prevent governance crises and subsequent conflicts in the countries of the Andean region.
The Observatory emanates from the fact that democratic governance of Latin America is seriously at risk. Thus, the worsening of tensions and politico-economic conflicts, within a context of increasing State fragility and social instability, is undermining the foundations of the Latin American states. In parallel, processes of economic adjustment and institutional reform undertaken to ameliorate the functioning of the State have led to processes of de-institutionalization, and de-politicization that currently feed the uncertainty and instability of these countries.
Confronted with this complex reality, and considering that this phenomenon is particularly relevant in the countries of the Andean region (Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela), CITpax is creating a space for reflection and analysis that may permit follow-up and detailed evaluations of how democratic governance is evolving in the Latin American region, with particular emphasis on the Andean countries.
Based on the use of the most important methodologies and mediation instruments that have been developed on the international arena, CITpax has structured a monitoring system in order to have a more precise perspective on how the conditions for political and institutional stability evolve in each country in order to avoid crises.
