Strengthening and Promoting the Role of Women in the Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts in Iraq

This training workshop aimed to empower a group of Iraqi women representing different regions, ethnic groups and professions to become trainers in conflict resolution and group facilitation in their country.

 

Madrid- Toledo, 7 – 11 May 2007 (second workshop) 

This seminar, organised by CITpax, the Al-Amal Iraqi Association and the Rafael del Pino Foundation, aimed to provide a group of Iraqi women with conflict resolution techniques to reinforce the role of Iraqi women as an essential part of civil society and also to encourage gender equality in a context of peace and security.

The workshop was attended by the Iraqi Minister for Human Rights, Wijdan Mikhail, Director-General of the Department for Women at the Ministry for Human Rights in Iraq, Sawsan Al-Barral, the Iraqi Ambassador in Spain, Talal H. al-Khudairi, the Spanish Ambassador in Iraq, Ignacio Rupérez, Director-General for Women in the Comunidad de Madrid, Patricia Flores Cerdán, President of the International Cooperation Commission, Delia Blanco, Human Rights Ambassador for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Silvia Escobar, and representative and spokesperson for the Partido Popular's Culture Commission, Beatriz Rodríguez Salmones. Other individuals from the fields of politics, culture and education also attended. 

Finally, the Iraqi Minister for Human Rights made a cultural visit to Toledo on the 8th and was welcomed by the Minister for Economy and Inland Revenue for the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha, María Luisa Araújo. During the afternoon, she met the Minister for Education and Science, Mercedes Cabrera Calvo-Sotelo in Madrid.
